::Be Inspired:: An Interview with Zach & Jody Gray

I am so excited about all of the events that are going to take place this week!  For those of you who don’t know, Showit is officially on tour and are currently making their way, via a killer tour bus, up to Seattle, Washington.  There has been a lot of talk about what exactly this tour will be about, while I still don’t know *exactly* what it is, I do know that they are getting ready to launch brand new software called PASS.  If you know anything about Showit, you know that they are all about ease of use and keeping things simple.  You can bet that PASS will be following in the same footsteps.  If you are able to attend one of their stops, we highly recommend it!  We can’t wait to get to Seattle later this week to see the amazing Showit crew, as well as Zach & Jody Gray and Promise Tangeman (read her Be Inspired Interview here)!  We are so eager to learn more about this amazing new phase for Showit, be on the look out for more details soon!  :)

This week we knew we had to bring in a special interview to kick off the tour right!  Who could be better that Zach & Jody?  They were gracious enough to take time out of their crazy busy schedule to do an interview with us and we couldn’t be more excited!  We know you are all eager to learn more about this amazing husband and wife duo, so we won’t keep you in suspense!  Happy Monday- and to the tour crew- happy travels!  :)

Named as one of Nashville Tennessee’s top wedding photographers in 2009, Zach and Jody are a dynamic photography duo who have quickly emerged into the wedding scene gaining local and national recognition for their work.  They have been named by Westcott as one of their Top Endorsed Pros, are a part of the exclusive SanDisk Extreme Team, they have received awards for their imagery, hosted numerous highly successful photography workshops across the United States, have been invited to lead a MasterClass at WPPI 2011 and SWPP in the UK, and their work has appeared in various publications including People, Southern Bride, and PPA Magazine.

Zach and Jody specialize in weddings, bringing a blend of fashion & photojournalism into their work giving their imagery a unique edge.  Zach, an expert in advanced off camera lighting, brings his experience and knowledge on location fashioning an artistic flair, while Jody’s expertise with her natural eye lie in photojournalism.  They are nationally recognized for producing their distinct look entirely in-camera with minor post processing.

Zach and Jody have built a successful photography business using innovative marketing techniques built around word-of-mouth and word-of-mouse marketing.

Zach and Jody Gray are based out of Nashville, TN and have been married for five years.  They have a passion for marriage, for helping others in business and they absolutely love what they do!

Our names are Zach and Jody Gray and we are wedding photographers from Nashville, TN!

What are 3 things we should know about you?
1. We wear matching clothes by accident WAY to often!
2. We love marraige and are passionate about it.
3. We have matching Schwinn his and her bikes!

Lots of our stuff matches, that is too creepy! :)

Define your style in 5 words:
Zach’s style is modern fashion flair and Jody’s is storytelling moments.

What is your specialty?
Weddings that are just like our style. We shoot weddings for brides that have photography at the top of the list of important things happening at her wedding.

What inspires your work?
We get inspired mostly by our couple’s and their personalities. Then just shoot their story as it happens!

Where is your dream location to do a shoot or wedding?
At the mouth of a volcano in Maui! That would be amazing!

Divulge one of your dreams for your business:
Our biggest dream in our business is that it will free us to do what we want and give us the ability to help others that want the same thing. We are living that dream!

What do you love most about being a photographer?
Inspiring other photographers to run a business that works for them. That is by far what we love the most about this job.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
In five years we see oursleves giving more than ever to those that need it, shooting weddings and telling stories for those that deserve it because of how amazing their story is, and being a bigger voice in the photography community by letting them know that there is a way to run your business so that it does not run you. We also want to help bring down the stats on divorces in America and with the couples that we work with. Half of all marriages will end in divorce, and would it not be amazing if we could do something about that? We can!

If you could meet anyone in the world, who would it be & why?
Dead or alive? We just had this conversation yesterday! Too funny! Jody said she would meet Joseph from the bible and I would have loved to meet Mother Terresa. If they have to be alive, then Jody would meet Justin Beiber because he is unbielieberful! I would meet Brad Pit and ask him how I could be cooler. :)

As a fellow Showiteer, tell us what you love about Showit:
Showit has helped us make our website unique and showcase the only thing that we have that is our own, US! It let’s us showcase oursleves through all of the cool tools they have and also helps us promote our business in organic ways with things like plus sites. Organic marketing is how we have built our entire business, by having other people sell us instead of us selling us.

What advice do you have for new photographers?
Our best advice would be this. Where you will be in five years is dependant on two things; the people you meet and the books you read. Read books about business if you want to run a great business and look to those that are running great businesses and act like them!

Zach & Jody, thank you so, so much for being a part of Be Inspired. You are both so amazing and I LOVE everything you had to say about marriage- as my hubby and I have been happily married for 12 years now!! :) You are both a true inspiration! We can’t wait to see you in Seattle!
