I don’t even know where to begin this post. I have known Kylene my entire life, as she is my cousin. I can remember my Aunt Cynthia being pregnant with her and how thrilled both she and my Uncle Doug were to be having a baby. She was easily one of the most beautiful babies I have ever seen in my entire life. Huge dark brown eyes with thick black lashes, black fuzzy hair and gorgeous golden skin- she was truly a sight. For her 1st birthday her parents hosted a huge luau in her honor and my mom flew my brother and I to Kailua, Oahu to celebrate with our family. It was amazing. I will never forget how proud my Uncle Doug was of Kylene, even at a year old. His love and adoration for her never faded, not even for a second.
I was fortunate enough this past September to share a couple of hours with Kylene, massaging her daddy’s feet, talking about life, love and the in-between. These hours were to be some of my Uncle’s final hours. They were also some of my finest. To see firsthand the love between Kylene and my Uncle Doug was so powerful, so raw, so real, so pure… It’s something I will carry with me for the rest of my life. He was one great man who had one amazing daughter.
Kylene, I am so honored that I was able to do this shoot with you. I can’t begin to explain to you how proud I am of you and how truly amazing I think you are. I see so much of your dad in you and I know that you are keeping his spirit alive- and it is such an incredible spirit. :) Thank you so much for allowing Jeff and I to share in this time in your life. I love you and hope to see you again real soon.
Kylene’s boyfriend, Kyle, joined us for a few shots in the park. Aren’t they adorable?
I had to get a shot of the locket- which holds a picture of her daddy. :) Perfect.
