It all began with a camera and a dream. A dream to be an artist, creating beauty with my very hands and my trusty little Canon, a gift from my amazing hubby. I knew what I wanted, but I had no idea how to get there. I didn’t know the first thing about starting a business, let alone maintaining one. And while I was in love with photography, I only had experience with film, not digital. But there I was, determined to become a professional photographer, no matter what it took for me to make it happen.
In 2007, I would spend my days tucked away in the depths of a corporate building, wishing I could break free of the confines of my cubicle cage. I was existing in a bankers world, playing the part, going through the motions, trying to be something I wasn’t. And it made me miserable. All I wanted was to be me, the real me, out loud. I wanted to live the life I had always imagined for myself, feeling inspired each and every day. Above all else, I wanted to show my children that with hard work, dedication and believing in myself, I could make my dream come true- and if they did the same, they could make their dreams come true, too.
You see, I could have settled. I could still be that girl on auto-pilot, working in the white collar world, pretending that it was enough to keep me content. But I dared to dream and more than that, I dared to try, I dared to chase, I dared to be. I will never have to ask myself, “What if?” And that is a beautiful thing. What are your dreams? Are you trying to make them happen? Are you daring to chase them? Are you being the person you want to be in this world? What’s stopping you? Dare to dream a little dream.
