I am sitting in my new office space, listening to one of my new music obsessions, Betty and the Boy, surrounded by so many things that inspire me, my dog asleep at my feet. It has been an amazing day. :) It’s just me, my thoughts, my music, my inspirations and my dog. Days like this are rare in my house, so I choose to revel in them and gobble them up by the mouthful. It’s times like these that I am really able to absorb myself in my work and to put it simply, fall in love with it all over again. I need days like this, I think maybe we all do.
I am so excited about this week’s Be Inspired feature on the amazing and uber-talented Stacey Poterson. :) She is a girl after my own heart, specializing in senior portraits, based out of Gibert, Arizona. Seriously, when I saw her images I was rather smitten! :) I hope you enjoy this installment of Be Inspired- I know Stacey’s insight and images will leave you feeling just that- inspired! Happy Wednesday!
My name is Stacey and if I had to, I could eat pizza everyday!
What are 3 things we should know about you?
1. The Lord has blessed me immensely. My business and my life are for His glory.
2. I’m married to my high school sweet heart and we just had our first baby!!
3. I’m a bottom line, get-to-the-point type girl. So, the following answers will be short and sweet. :)
Define your style in 5 words:
Fun, funky, fresh, vibrant & clean
What is your specialty?
Seniors!! High school seniors that is. Whenever I tell people that I shoot seniors, they give me a puzzled look, and ask, “you mean, like, old people”? It always makes me laugh. So now I make sure to clarify–high school seniors!
What inspires your work?
Color!! I love color! Color in clothes. Color in the background. Color in hair, etc. It’s great when an image pops because of vibrant color!
Where is your dream location to do a shoot or wedding?
New York City. I think I belong there…that is -if it didn’t snow- way too cold for my Arizona blood! But shooting some seniors there would be amazing!
Divulge one of your dreams for your business:
That the Zeal Team (My senior rep program) would take off and be successful year after year. I’m doing something a little different by incorporating volunteering into the program, where the Zeal Team and I will go as a group and volunteer monthly in our community. Each member will get to pick where we volunteer each month. I’m really excited about it!! I hope we can make a difference in our community! www.zealteam.staceypoterson.com.
What do you love most about being a photographer?
I love my clients and that I get to capture memories for them. Photographers have such a gift to be able to stop time in one single second, and make that second last a lifetime. It’s just amazing to be able to share that with my clients. I also love that I can start my day at 11am and stay dressed in my pajamas all day (if I’m not meeting with a client, of course)!
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
In 5 years I’ll be 30. I’ll probably have another kid and another dog by then. And hopefully my business will continue to grow, and I’ll be able to use it to help others.
As a fellow Showiteer, what do you love about Showit?
I love that my site is truly unique and not like anyone else’s! I love that I can change the design when needed, and it’s so easy to do! I also love the +sites, I use them for everything!
If you could meet anyone in the world, who would it be & why?
Derek Jeter. He’s probably one of the classiest guys in baseball. I love his professionalism on and off the field. And I’d also like to meet… wait for it… Zac Efron. Yes, that’s right, the guy from High School Musical. Don’t hate.
What advice do you have for new photographers?
Find a niche. Find something that you love shooting. After shooting families, kids, couples, seniors, etc. I found that I loved seniors the most and I wanted that to be my focus for my business. So find what you love, and put your time and energy into being the best in that niche.
Oh my gosh, Stacey, I heart you! Seriously!! I think we need to chat about seniors, and yes, I mean high school seniors. :) (I have the same trouble with people, too!!) You rock girl- LOVE your work! Thank you so much for sharing so much of yourself and welcome to the Be Inspired family!!
Be sure to follow Stacey!
