Last senior season was the busiest I have ever been since starting my business in 2007. While I loved every single minute of working with all of my clients, there were many, many chaotic and stressful moments that had me wanting to hide under my desk. At the start of 2012, I made a declaration that I wanted to have 75 senior shoots that year. So, to make it happen, I started marketing myself like mad to reach that number- and it worked. What I didn’t know at this point in the year was that come July, I would be on an operating table and unable to work for four solid weeks. The timing could not have been worse. While I achieved my goal, the majority of these 75 sessions took place in a 10 week span, while I was still on “light duty” mode. ;) Oops.
I learned a lot about myself, my business, my strengths and my weaknesses last fall. I am not perfect and I am not going to sit here and pretend that I am, I made some mistakes, without question. But I also made serious progression in my business, my photography skills and my brand. I quickly learned that the business model I had created for myself was too much for me to take on alone, I was stretching myself too thin. I revisited what worked and what didn’t last fall and made several adjustments where needed. This June kicks off senior season for the Class of 2014, my session goal is 75 again, although it won’t be condensed to 10 weeks this time! I will be booking a limited number of sessions each month to meet all of the demands of my business. If you are interested in booking your senior session, be sure to book early!
Speaking of the Class of 2014, I am so excited to feature Cassidy, one of our Young & Free Senior Models from Bend! I recently had the opportunity to meet up with Cassidy and her best friend Liv, for her senior model shoot. :) I love this time of year when Spring starts flirting with Winter and the thick gray blanket the Northwest hides under begins to lift.
