I recently went to Fargo, ND to teach our Be Inspired Workshop. Over the course of the two day event, I talked a lot about Specializing & Branding- knowing your market and your ideal client. We had the amazing opportunity to work with seven high school girls who modeled for us, each girl was so wonderful to work with and they were all so sweet. On the second day there was one girl in particular that I kept gravitating to. On four separate occasions I had an attendee come up to me and say, “Harlee is your girl, huh?” Grinning like an idiot, I would nod, a feeling of triumph welling up inside me.
Yes! Harlee was my girl. My target client, my ideal client. I knew it and they could sense it. Mission accomplished. I felt such pride in knowing that I had expressed to them who my target client was, showed them examples of who she was and then out of the seven girls, without me saying anything, they could identify her. It absolutely made my day. :)
I know who I am and have built a brand based on that, which has helped me to seek out my ideal girl. A girl I understand. A girl who isn’t afraid to get a little bit dirty, keep it simple and will make no apologies for who she is. A girl like me. That is my target client. Because I get her. And Harlee was exactly that, a girl I recognized.
Before leaving Fargo, thank you to Lindsay Kaye, we were able to drive out to Kindred, North Dakota for an impromptu senior session with Harlee. That’s right, after hearing me go on and on about how Harlee embodied so many qualities that my clients back home embody, Lindsay reached out to her and asked if she would be interested in doing one more session with us- and she said yes! I was THRILLED! :) After spending some time in the tiny town she calls home, we traveled out to her parents beautiful property, taking advantage of it’s rustic offerings and even managed to snag a few pics with one of her horses. Eek! :) It was the perfect way to end an amazing trip!
Harlee, I cannot thank you enough for agreeing to shoot with us again! You are one amazing girl and I think the world of you! And I cannot get over how much you resemble Jessica Biel!! I hope you are able to make it to Oregon one day- I would LOVE to get you in front of my camera again and show you what a land with green hills & snow-topped mountains looks like! Haha! Best of luck to you with graduation and college- I know you will rock it! Much love!
