::Sunday Q&A:: Reader Question of the Week

Um, yikes!  Has a week seriously passed by??  It seems impossible and also terrible that an entire week has gone by and I failed to post anything to my blog.  Dear internet, I’ve neglected you.  So sorry!!  I have been lost in the land of editing.  I have so much to post and I’m desperately trying to make my way through it all, but as you can see, I’m doing a very good job.  I am vowing, right here and now, to post at least four posts this week.

So, last week, after posting the very first Sunday Q&A, I received several emails from my readers.  Thank you so much for taking the time to read my blog and send in your questiosn.  :)  I can’t begin to tell you how much I appreciate it!  I was a little nervous to start doing the Q&A, because I just didn’t know if anyone would be interested in what I had to say.  I was so thrilled to receive the reader questions and had a hard time choosing which question to answer.  If I don’t answer your question this week, please keep coming back, I will try my vesy best to answer you!

I received several messages regarding lenses, so I randomly selected one of the questions to post:

Drew asks: “I’m thinking about starting a photography business and honestly have no idea what lenses I should buy.  I just got my hands on a used Canon 5D, but it didn’t come with any lenses.  What do you have and/or what do you suggest?  Any input would be greatly appreciated!”

First off, congrats on your new camera!  This past year Jeff and I made a huge investment in our business and bought an arsenol of fabulous lenses!  :)  I did a post all about them last year, but it was before I’d actually had a chance to shoot with them.  Now that I’ve worked with them, I definitely have my favorites.  :)

Shown below: 70-200mm 2.8L IS, 24-70mm 2.8L, 100mm 2.8 Macro, 85mm 1.8, 50mm 1.4.

70-200mm 2.8L IS: This lens was a must have for me as Jeff and I increased our Wedding bookings. This lens produces some of the very best images I have ever shot in my life.  The range is incredible and the clarity is unbelievable!  I use this lens for ceremony pictures, I love it because it allows me to get pictures of the venue if I keep it at 70mm and right up close the Bride & Groom if I zoom in to 200mm.  If you intend on pursuing Wedding photography, this lens is a must!

24-70mm 2.8L: This is Jeff’s go-to lens.  He uses this lens for the ceremony, as he is always positioned up in front to get the photojouralistic images of the guests and the Bride & Groom during the ceremony.  I get to use it from time to time and absolutely love this images it produces.  It has great range- which is also perfect for reception pictures.

100mm 2.8 Macro: The detail lens.  I ♥ details and I ♥ this lens.  This was my first exposure to prime lenses and let me tell you- I fell in love and I fell hard.  While you don’t get any range, you do get crystal clear, sharp pictures.  I use this lens for closeup images of the rings and other smaller details.

85mm 1.8:  I honestly hardly ever use this lens, this is another one of Jeff’s lenses.  :)  I can tell you that because it is a prime lens, same rules apply as above.  This lens is such a great value for the prince- you can get your hands one for under $400 brand new.  Great lens!!

lenses-1003

50mm 1.4: This is my FAVORITE lens!  I could shoot with it all day every day!  Another amazing lens for the price (also under $400 brand new) that gives me some of the sharpest images I have ever seen.  I use this lens for just about ever single session as well as weddings.  It has become one lens I could never do without!  :)
