Let’s Chat About: Inspiration & Motivation

You know that old saying, “Look before you leap”? Well, that’s what I’m doing. Looking ahead, trying to envision what 2014 will look like- the good, the bad and the space between. I know, it’s impossible to really forecast what *might* be, however, I am attempting to enter 2014 with wide, open eyes, refusing to leap with my eyes wide shut.

Looking back at some of my old blog posts from last year, I had a great plan of simplifying my work life- yet, by March I pursued a little idea that spiraled me into a whirlwind project, which wound up being anything but simple. Lesson learned. This year, I refuse to make the same mistake this time around. 2014 is my redo. And I have no intention of messing up the chance to try again.

I think we all have the bad habit of looking outward instead of inward sometimes. Am I wrong? I can easily confess that I tend to see something someone else is doing and instantly confuse inspiration with motivation. Recently, I’ve had to put myself in check and acknowledge that just because something (anything) makes me feel something, it doesn’t mean I have to act on it. I can simply be inspired by it and not veer off track. In these moments of weakness, I have to remind myself of what it is I truly want, looking inward.

So, what is it that I want for Holli True Photography, you ask? Well, truthfully, it’s not a long list at all, or overly complex…

  • Simplicity. Yes, I’m saying it again. A simplified business plan, workflow and process.
  • Connection. More time connecting with photography peers and clients.
  • Workshops & Mentoring. I think this goes back to connection and my LOVE of sharing my passion.
  • Young & Free. I want further my brand and dig deeper into who I am and what it all means to me.
  • Creation. More concepts, more stories, more beauty.
  • Inspiration. My everything.

Looking at where I am currently in my business, I am so happy with what I have achieved. I started this business in 2007, having no idea what it meant to run a photography business, I had no clients, no brand and blind ignorance of what I would face on the road ahead. Of course, had I known, I likely would have run for the hills, screaming in fear, in the opposite direction. ;) What I did have was a little camera and a big ol’ dream. Years of hard work, dedication, support from my loved ones and drive are what got me to where I am today. And I am very proud of that. Do I want more? Yes. Am I willing to work for it? Absolutely. If anything, the past six years have shown me that anything is possible if you are willing to work for it. And I am.

Simplicity, it is. I am committed to the vision I have for my business and I will work my little heart out, looking inward, while striving to see it through. I am so ready for you, 2014. Let’s do this!
