As many of you are reading this, Jeff and I are already on the road, driving up to Portland for our 2 day Freedom Workshop. We are so, so excited about it and can’t wait to see the gorgeous websites our attendees create! :) If you are a Showit user looking to revamp your site, or if you aren’t using Showit yet, but are currently in need of a website, the Freedom Workshop is for you! You can view all of the details here.
We are so excited about this week’s interview with the one and only Jamie Delaine. I was really hoping to meet Jamie this past February at WPPI, unfortunately, the opportunity never presented itself. Jamie is an incredibly talented photographer based out of Langley, Brittish Columbia, who began her whirlwind career as a teenager! I mean, wow! :) She is taking the photography industry by storm with her gorgeous imagery, witty blog posts and undeniable charm. We just know you’ll love her words of inspiration…
My name is Jamie Delaine and I am thankful for the life I get to live.
What are 3 things we should know about you?
1. I absolutely love ketchup and put it on most food.
2. I started my business at sixteen years old.
3. Jesus and the local church is my passion.
Define your style in 5 words:
Fun, eclectic, quirky, off-beat, love-filled.
What is your specialty?
Weddings.
What inspires your work?
Simply, love. The love I’ve been shown by God propels me to love others, to capture the love that other share. I am so inspired by that.
Where is your dream location to do a shoot or wedding?
Italy. I was there for 9 days four years ago and I fell completely in love. Can you imagine a wedding on the Almalfi Coast? Ohhh boy.
Divulge one of your dreams for your business:
I dream of photographing weddings all over the world, as well as just continuing to do what I love!
What do you love most about being a photographer?
The relationships I build with clients. Hands down.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
In five years? Happily married, in a small but beautifully decorated apartment or townhouse, working part-time in photography and volunteering the rest of my time with the church.
As a fellow Showiteer, what do you love about Showit?
Showit gives me SO much freedom to create exactly the website I want! not to mention, the community is rad. I just love DJ and he’s so great at connecting photographers.
If you could meet anyone in the world, who would it be & why?
This is such a difficult question: I’m not much of a starstruck person, I’m plenty happy to just listen/watch the lives of others rather than meet people just once. ;) BUT, it would probably be a coffee date with somebody like Chelsea Smith [@PastorChelsea on twitter] or Brooke Fraser: brookefraser.com.
What advice do you have for new photographers?
Read, practice. Two words! It really doesn’t get much more complicated than that. Read constantly: books, magazines, forums, other blogs and then take that knowledge and use it.
Jamie, thank you so much for a fabulous interview! You are such an amazing young woman and incredible things are ahead for you! :) You have inspired us all!
