Holli True: Unplugged

I unplugged from social media this past weekend and it was a glorious thing.  :)  I could feel my brain going into overload from too much information, too much chaos, too much need to know, too much everything.  So, on Friday night, I clicked the X on my browser and vowed to leave it there until Monday morning.  Despite a few moments of weakness, overall, I managed to stay pretty mum on my social media outlets, which couldn’t have come at a better time.  As much as I love Facebook, Twitter & Instagram, I was in desperate need of a slow down.  A weekend to spend with my kiddos and hubby, to surround myself by the ones I love most and enjoy their company, free of distractions.  As hard as it can be to remove yourself from something that is second nature, I was reminded that I should be doing it more often.  I mean, it’s not like the posts of my friends, family, peers & clients won’t be there when I return- so what am I so worried about missing out on?

When is the last time you unplugged?  If it has been awhile, I challenge you to do so!  (After reading this blog post, of course!)  ;)  Gain perspective and shut it down for a day or two, or a week if you can stand it!  Allow yourself the freedom to just be.  Be in the moment, with your family and/or friends, engaging in real-time conversation and activities, free from the hustle & bustle tickers, 140 character updates and snapshots of what’s for dinner.  Play with your kids, hang with your spouse, chase daylight.  You can do it.  And you will thank yourself when you do.  :)  We’ll all be here waiting for you when you return.
